Manufacture de Bérets - Boneteria Auloronesa - Orthez - Barnabé

Manufacture de Bérets / Barnabé is a small, highly skilled French artisan beret maker founded by a dedicated boinero and former technical director of Béatex–Laulhère. The workshop is committed to preserving traditional beret production in France, in the historic birthplace of the beret: Béarn, at the foot of the Pyrenees.

Its original woven label features the iconic Béarn emblem of two blue-horned red cows. Production was extremely limited—around 3,500 berets per year—and carried out by a single master maker, ensuring exceptional attention to detail.

In 2017 the company was taken over by Sara Goupy, and in 2021 production moved to the nearby historic town of Orthez, remaining firmly rooted in the same regional tradition.

South Pacific Berets stocks a wide range of sizes and styles, including headband-free bérets universel (available in 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, and 11 pouces) and béret casquettes (peaked berets). Both are fitted with a liguette, a satin internal drawstring that allows precise size adjustment without stretching the wool.
Also available are the Grand Foulards Alpin, large-diameter berets inspired by those worn by the Chasseurs Alpins—famously known as the last line of defence between the head and the clouds. These are also produced in the Universel adjustable version.
In short: these are among the finest artisan berets to be found anywhere.
Selected models are also offered with our Boneteria Aotearoa label, finished in a slightly softer hand for an alternative feel.
